Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.
- E. L. Doctorow

Querying is one of the toughest parts of the industry because it needs attention to detail, patience, and a lot of self-determination. Writers notoriously lack the self-esteem, which is what makes querying so difficult. So, to give you a few hints and helpful tips before submitting, below are a couple articles to help you gain that querying self-esteem and perfect those words!
7 Tips for Writing Your First Query Letter For Your Book - Writer's Relief
The Complete Guide to Query Letters - Jane Friedman
How To Write A Darn Good Query Letter - NY Book Editors
Query Letter Format - Kid Lit
The Parts Of A Good Query - Susan Dennard
Successful Queries - Writer's Digest
When all else fails, or if you still feel you need some help, I highly suggest utilizing Susan Dennard's Writing Resources, or Jane Friedman's Writing Advice Archive. Both of these women are amazing sources for writing advice, encouragement, and tricks of the trade and I strongly advise you to go through their articles for writers before submitting a query to any agent or editor.

Now...Are you ready to submit your query?

You can submit your query through Query Manager by clicking on the link provided or typing https://querymanager.com/query/KellyPeterson into your URL. You will need a query, synopsis, and the first 5 pages of your manuscript pasted in to the form, as well as the ability to tell me a little bit about yourself and answer some fun questions. Come prepared! =)

In order to submit a submission (i.e. PitMad, Pitch Wars, PitDark, Savvy Authors, Conferences, etc.), please submit through my Query Manager at the specific links that will be provided below:

Conferences: http://querymanager.com/kellypeterson/conferences
Pitch Wars: http://querymanager.com/kellypeterson/pitchwars
PitMad: http://querymanager.com/kellypeterson/pitmad

Have a quick question before you submit your query? Use the form below. Please note that I will not answer questions which have already been answered on my website, or that require you to simply do your research. I don't want to be mean and ignore anyone, but if your question can be answered by a simple Google search, you can't expect me to answer and put more time into your question than into my authors. Please, before asking, DO YOUR RESEARCH!

I’m still looking for my online dating rom-com! I NEED it! Who has one? It could be friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, comedic failure, I really don’t care. It just needs the hilarious reality of online dating and how horrendous it is! But of course, with a happy ending! #MSWL pic.twitter.com/ZFFRZP6UnJ

In adult romance, I’m really looking for phenomenal writing, but there’s definitely a few tropes I adore. One of which is the best friends to lovers trope right now! #MSWL Give me Friends with Benefits redone! pic.twitter.com/aiR4yiH3Es

In MG, I’m really looking for heartwarming stories! One in particular, if anyone has a MG about a girl at space camp, I’m all about it! #MSWL pic.twitter.com/OtgSrtWuTO

YA Horror ghost stories are life. If it doesn’t make your skin crawl while writing it, I don’t want it. #MSWL #paranormalactivity pic.twitter.com/gBKuTkcDik

Anyone ever see the Spooky Challenge on Musically that they use for Tik Tok ads on Facebook? This one is done to Charlie Puth’s Betty Boop, and the duet in this advertisement/video is hardcore #MSWL worthy. pic.twitter.com/3xQZ79HsRU

I just got my new #TarotDeLaNuit which was released a few days ago. I'm so in love with/connected to this deck that I'm making it a #MSWL. I need a manuscript that finds beauty in the darkness of the night like this deck does. If these look like it could fit your MS, send to me! pic.twitter.com/cknaHaeQhD

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) October 1, 2018

#MSWL I have LITERALLY been begging for YA Fantasy rooted in a Native American tribe's mythology. If any native writers feel confident enough to send me their work, I'd be so happy to read it!

Still looking for a Bridget Jones meets Tinder! #MSWL pic.twitter.com/NbfaHpGY7h

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) April 23, 2018

I could really use a The Bold Type story of friendship and romance written by and for the millennial generation of BOSS LADIES! Women who work hard, play hard, and love hard, supporting each other along the way, too. And a partner who isn’t afraid of boss &*+@#€$! ❤️ #MSWL pic.twitter.com/dQkBF3tyz3

I had asked for a MG wolf story a while ago and am still searching for it. Shapeshifters welcome, or Direwolves like in GOT! Companion. Tribal animal. Wolf anything and everything. I want it. #MSWL pic.twitter.com/PBQW36htti

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) March 31, 2019

Was talking to an editor today and we both agreed that we desperately want some hilarious girl books for MG, like Diary of A Wimpy Kid for girls instead of boys. #MSWL because this would be boss and there’s a need for it. pic.twitter.com/0T7LBXNQST

Uhhhh...is it weird to say #MSWL? https://t.co/t1GLCO7tJh

#MSWL Guys, I still need a pirate manuscript in my life ASAP. Who has one they can query me with that's female driven? Bonus points if you have a character with a personality or traits like Tia Dalma/Calypso with a hard pirate/sailing edge. pic.twitter.com/6C6K7hf3QM

All the reasons why I'm dying for a book version of The Bold Type. #MSWL □□□□□□ https://t.co/BjMVzBAAr8

YA Historical everything, though my focus is still looking for that Ruby from Cold Mountain in colonial times on her own. #MSWL pic.twitter.com/BHOxqp7Xod

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) March 1, 2018

#MSWL Also fully watching The Crown and Reign right now and looking for court intrigue, especially in courts we haven't seen much from! Mary Queen of Scots? The Spain monarchy? Maybe French Sun King type of court intrigue? Especially with LGBTQIA+ characters and maybe magic?

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) September 12, 2018

Also, video game competitions and maybe even cons in MG! Dungeons and Dragons too? Something nerdy and feisty and showcasing kids who aren’t afraid to be who they are and ROCK. THE. WORLD. With their nerdiness. #MSWL pic.twitter.com/uXcn3rYSoV

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) March 31, 2019

I’m not a cooking manuscript person, but I AM a sports person. Baseball. Dirt bikes. Paintball. Dance. Gymnastics. Girls playing in boys sports. Anyone have a female quarterback in MG? Maybe The Sandlot but for a girl? #mswl pic.twitter.com/mOcOVrZJ3r

Just had a talk with one of my beloved editor friends and we’re both dying for some WOLVES. Not werewolves, but like Game of Thrones wolves in YA or MG. WHO HAS THIS? Because we need it. Desperately. #MSWL pic.twitter.com/S53glVHPpW

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) December 6, 2018

Seriously, Brooklyn is my new favorite movie and it makes me so happy every time I turn it on. I ordered it on DVD on 2-day delivery just so I can bring it to the U.K. With me and force @writerShanna to watch it. ? Anyone have a YA historical like this? #MSWL pic.twitter.com/72oEyUUiFq

— Kelly ? (@LitAgentKelly) July 23, 2018

I have a secret weakness for sci-fi that's monster and tech heavy...and maybe even including aliens. My love for movies like Transformers and Pacific Rim have no bounds! If you can give me something like Pacific Rim technology and piloting in a book, I'd be so happy! #MSWL

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) July 1, 2018

I saw this in one of my fashion games, and the grabby hands immediately came out. I NEED THIS! Though probably not in Alaska...high fantasy, anyone?! #MSWL #WANT #NEED pic.twitter.com/kCqahOXxrU

— Kelly □ (@LitAgentKelly) December 15, 2017

YA Fantasy involving a twisted circus ring leader and the people who are stuck performing underneath him. Give me darkness, witches, chained magic, and all the evil. ❤️ #MSWL pic.twitter.com/b4vJSMDMP3
